5 Issues Causing Progressive Infighting in 2017
5 Issues Causing Progressive Infighting in 2017
The Hillary Clinton establishment Democrats are losers. The Obama/Pelosi led Democrats lost over 1000 seats across the country between 2009 and 2016. There’s no reason any of us should have faith in them or their political ilk. Not in their policies nor their ability to win. And especially not in their donors.
As we all now, these terrible results have left the door wide open for Progressives to bring new ideas to disenfranchised Democratic voters. But Progressive infighting has forced everyone left-of-center to choose sides in a war that is destined to fracture Progressive chances in 2018 and 2020.
Which Progressives are Fighting?
The important players involved in the progressive infighting are political commentators Cenk Uygur, Jordan Chariton, Anna Kasparian, Sam Seder, Michael Brooks, Tim Black, HA Goodman, Michael Tracey, Benjamin Dixon and Jimmy Dore. Progressives should know these names and many more from the independent media. Check out my piece on the best YouTube Progressives here.
TYT Supported Hillary
Splinters had always existed, but if you are wondering what really kicked off Progressive infighting, look no further than Cenk and Ana deciding to support Hillary Clinton in 2016. To me, real Progressives had two options: Hillary Clinton or Jill Stein. If you even considered Donald Trump or Gary Johnson, you were not a progressive in 2016. A vote for Hillary meant swallowing your pride and making a utilitarian decision. A progressive vote for Hillary was not a vote for Hillary, it was a vote against the disaster that we all know today as President Donald Trump. It was a vote for the status quo because the alternative meant deviating from the status quo in a direction that benefited the few and hurt the many. That was the logic for Progressives. Based on Trump’s presidency so far, it seems the logic was correct.
You would have to be lying to yourself or politically incompetent to believe Jill Stein had a chance of winning. She did not. A vote for Jill Stein meant accepting that Donald Trump could be the next president, and that you would not be attempting to do anything to stop it. Of course, it was not a Jill Stein voter’s responsibility to vote for Hillary. But they did choose to vote for a candidate destined to lose with nothing to show for it. In a winner-take-all election, third place in the general is about as valuable as Jeb Bush’s performance in the Republican Primary.
I would have loved for her to earn the 5% needed to get matching funds. But she did not and was never projected to. Part of me also hoped – like Jimmy Dore and others – that the “revolution” would come if a President Trump tried to do anything insane.
But Trump has done insane things. And the revolution hasn’t come. And now the resistance has been appropriated by the establishment. Gross.
Russian Influence in the 2016 Election
It is a borderline sin to discuss Russian influence in the 2016 election with certain types of Progressives. A typical response to the issue can be found in Michael Tracey, a TYT reporter who spends most of his time on Twitter tweeting about how we shouldn’t talk about if Russia influenced the US election in 2016.
Running around screaming TREASON day after day is definitely conducive to a healthy, rational, and constructive political environment.

While the Democrats are doing themselves no favors by focusing so wholly on the issue, one would be historically incurious to not support an investigation at the least. The amount of lying by the Trump team itself should raise serious red flags for anyone who is politically competent. Why continue lying if there is nothing to hide? Sure, we don’t need to talk about it all day everyday. And yes, it is a distraction from more important issues like healthcare. But the outright denial of collusion by Progressives seems rooted in a deep hate for Hillary Clinton and a firm desire to make sure she takes 100% of the blame for her loss to Donald Trump.
Was Seth Rich Assassinated?
The rift between Progressives on this issue is gigantic. One side is fairly certain the DNC assassinated Rich – including the ultra-conservative Trump supporting Sean Hannity. The other side has zero interest in what appears to be a case of robbery-gone-wrong. Another investigator claims Russians were involved. Russia, for their part, is promoting the conspiracies.
The Rich family asked conspiracy theorists to stop making accusations and for independent investigators to leave the investigation to the Police. Despite that, many Progressives believe there is a deep conspiracy afoot. Some say Rich was involved with leaking DNC information to Wikileaks, an idea initially backed up by private investigator Rod Wheeler (though he immediately retracted a statement after initially claiming he had evidence). Additionally, a statement by Julian Assange seems to suggest ties to Seth Rich. At least according to backers of the conspiracy. From Vox:
“Whistle blowers go to significant efforts to get us material, and often very significant risks,” (Assange) said. “As a 27-year-old, works for the DNC, was shot in the back, murdered just a few weeks ago for unknown reasons as he was walking down the street in Washington.”
The logic is further fueled by the old conspiracy that the Clinton’s have literally murdered a bunch of people, which is a nonsense claim that has been repeatedly debunked.
A lawsuit that continues to gain steam in the court system has become a focal point for progressive infighting. Why do TYT and the mainstream media not cover the suit with the same fervor as they do Russian collusion? The answer might disappoint you. The lawsuit is a loser – even if it wins. I’ve asked countless Progressives to answer one question, and the answers have been laughable:
#DNCfraudlawsuit will be the demise of DNC, therefore the demise of all political parties, and the end of big party campaign money
— aspiesmom (@aspiesmom) July 24, 2017
— H. A. Goodman (@HAGOODMANAUTHOR) July 9, 2017
The real answer is that there is no “win” for Progressives. The lawsuit will cost a lot of time, money and political capital that should be spent elsewhere. Instead, the #DNCFraidLawsuit is getting the full attention of people like HA Goodman – who refused to answer my question and instead just acted like a dick. These “progressives” are more concerned with destroying the Democratic Party, being correct about things, and ensuring the DNC and Hillary Clinton are to be blamed for everything that is wrong with the country. A more useful strategy would be to actively work towards making things better and finding the truth, not just ensuring that you were right.
Not to mention, what will actually happen if the DNC loses this case? Most likely, they will pay a fine and that’s all. The party will not implode. The revolution will not start. Big money will not leave politics. These ideas are based on nothing but ill-fated hope. The #DNCFraudLawsuit is a waste of time, even if progressives win.
So Called Progressives Teaming With the Alt-Right
The saddest Progressive infighting happening right now is on if the anti-establishment Alt-Right can be an ally to Progressives.
The answer is no.
There is no room for racism, sexism or bigotry under the Progressive umbrella. A coalition with these people will ultimately fail or be appropriated by the alt-right completely. Progressivism means something right now. Teaming with racists will destroy the meaning of the word. Imagine if the mainstream media was able to use the word “progressivism” with the same poison that they use the word “socialism”. It will make success for Progressives more difficult and will destroy any sense of moral superiority held by Progressives surrounding issues like healthcare, LGBT rights, income inequality or social justice. Teaming with the Alt-Right will be a political disaster for Progressives.
Check out Benjamin Dixon going in on these “progressives”.
Caitlyn Johnstone actually wrote an article called, “I Did NOT Call For An Alliance With White Nationalists, You Fucking Idiots“. In my opinion, she absolutely did though.
Taking all of these issues into account, one thing becomes clear. There are people who claim to be “progressives” but spend very little of their time fighting for progressive policies. They instead fight to destroy the DNC, make sure Hillary Clinton is blamed for everything, and try to create coalitions that are destined to fail. As a real Progressive, you should be on the lookout for these folks using progressivism to push their personal agendas. If your progressive news source focuses more on Hillary Clinton (over half-a-year since the election) than it does on money in politics, social justice, climate change or income inequality, you are likely being duped by a fraud. The same kind of frauds who think Mike Cernovich is a strong ally for Progressives.
